There is a long list, and you really do need to know what documents do I need to apply for a NSFAS grant.  Don’t cut corners, and make sure you take it to a police station to be stamped if it says it must be a certified copy.

Here is the list of what documents do I need to apply for a NSFAS grant:

  1. Your own cellphone number and email address
  2. Copy of your identity document (ID) or birth certificate
  3. ID copies of your parents, guardian or spouse (If applicable)
  4. Your proof of income or 1 year’s IRP5 (if applicable)
  5. Your parents, guardian or spouse’s proof of income
  6. If you are a SASSA grant recipient, no proof of income will be required
  7. Applicants with a disability must submit a completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form, click here to download
  8. An applicant who is recognised as a Vulnerable Child by the Department of Social Development must provide a completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form, click here to download.

How Do I Make a Certified Copy of a Document?

The easiest way to certify a document is to take it to the police station.  This is easiest as you can go any time (the police station is always open), and the service is 100% free! Here is a step-by-step guide on how to certify your documents:

  • Make a copy of the document you need to certify (for example your ID).
  • Take the original document plus the copy to the police station.
  • The police will check the copy against the original, and then stamp and sign your copy.
  • You must provide the original documents when requesting to have copies certified.
  • Your copy is now a Certified Copy

How to Apply for NSFAS Using the myNSFAS Portal

When it comes to applying for NSFAS, it has become a much simpler process through the myNSFAS portal. This is what you have to do in order to apply for NSFAS funding:

  1. Log onto the NSFAS website
  2. Tap on the Register button
  3. Fill in the required fields. This would be all your necessary details such as your ID number, cellphone number, etc
  4. Upload the necessary documentation and voila – you have applied for NSFAS funding!

But before you do all of that, make sure to create your own myNSFAS account online through the myNSFAS portal ONLY. There are many fake websites that pose as NSFAS when they’re in fact looking for your sensitive information – so beware!
