No, you cannot do your Adult Matric in six months or shorter. All full Matric qualifications will take a minimum of 12 months to complete all six subjects. You can take your subjects separately, and it can take up to three years to complete. 

How Long Does It Take To Get Your Adult Matric?

Getting your Adult Matric can a minimum of one year to complete. It can take up to three years to complete your Adult Matric. 

 

If you want to improve your Matric, it can take from 6 to 18 months to do a rewrite, depending on whether you do your rewrite in the first exam sitting after your Matric final exams. Rewrites are held in May/June every year. 

 

You can also get a Matric Equivalent Certificate. These are qualifications at the same educational level as Matric, which is NQF level 4. Qualifications that are at NQF level 4 but are not Matric are known as a Matric Equivalent Certificates. 

 

If you want to do a Matric Equivalent qualification, it can take 6 to 12 months to complete, depending on what you study and where you study it. 

How Can I Get My Matric Certificate Fast?

Unfortunately, there is no way to speed up the process of receiving your Matric Certificate. Once your Matric final results have been released, it will take four to six weeks for your certificate to be ready for collection. 

Is It Possible To Buy Your Matric Certificate?

No, you cannot buy your Matric Certificate. You can only get your Matric Certificate from Umalusi through the Department of Education. Umalusi has stated that participating in the buying and selling of Matric Certificates is a criminal offence. 

Can I Complete My Matric Online?

You can study for your Matric online. However, you cannot write your exams online. All Matric exams must be written in a government-designated venue. 

Is Adult Matric The Same As Matric?

Yes, the qualifications you receive work in exactly the same way. School Matric is referred to as a National Senior Certificate. An Adult Matric is referred to as a Senior Certificate (Amended). These two certificates are both commonly known as a Matric Certificate, and they function the same way. You can use both of these to apply to work or to further your studies.

Can I Do Adult Matric At UNISA?

No, you cannot do Adult Matric at UNISA. Adult Matric courses are not offered at any universities, because it is not a university-level qualification.

Can I Rewrite My Adult Matric After 5 Years?

Yes, you can rewrite your Adult Matric after five years. You can rewrite your Matric up to five years after your Matric final exams. After this, you can apply to do a Matric Upgrade course. 

 

For a Matric Rewrite, you may rewrite a maximum of four subjects. These must be subjects you wrote for your final exams, you cannot change subjects. 

 

When you apply for a Matric Upgrade, you can upgrade a few subjects, and you may choose to change any or all of your three elective subjects. You can change up to six subjects, and you can also add new subjects to your Matric Certificate.

Yes, you can upgrade your Matric after 10 years. You can upgrade your Matric at any time, as long as you are over the age of 21. You must be over the age of 21, because you will write the Adult Matric exams. There is no limit to the number of times you can upgrade your Matric. 

What Can I Study If I Do Not Have Matric?

There are study options available for you to further your studies, even if you do not have your Matric, such as:

ICB Courses

ICB courses are accredited by both ICB (the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers) and QCTO (the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations). This means that they are recognised by potential employers as formal qualifications. 

 

ICB courses are highly regarded in South Africa because they teach scarce skills. Scarce skills are skills that are in high demand in South Africa. This means more job opportunities and better job stability. These courses are recognised both locally and internationally. 

 

ICB courses you can study without Matric are: 

 

 

The ICB Business Management course has three levels. It begins at a Matric Equivalent level, and goes up to the Diploma level. The entry requirements are that you have completed Grade 11. 

 

The ICB Financial Accounting course has four levels. It begins at Grade 11 equivalent level, and goes up to the Diploma level. The entry requirements are that you have completed Grade 10. 

 

The ICB Office Administration course requires you to have Matric or a Matric Equivalent to be able to apply. This means you can study the Matric Equivalent level of the ICB Business Management course or the ICB Financial Accounting course, and use that to apply to the Office Administration course.
