Can Matric Be Repeated?

Yes, Matric can be repeated. If you wrote your Matric exams but failed the year, there are options available for you to change that. 

 

If you failed two or three subjects, you can apply to do a Matric Rewrite the year after your final exams. These exams were called supplementary exams. They are now called second national exams. You can register for these up to five years after your Matric year. 

 

If you failed more than three subjects, you can re-enrol for your Matric year. This will mean redoing the school year and retaking all the exams which are the mid-year, prelims/trials, and finals. 

 

If you failed Matric and have been out of Matric for more than five years and are over the age of 21, you can register for a Matric Upgrade. This will allow you to upgrade the marks of as many subjects as you choose, and you can choose to change your elective subjects if you prefer. 

Can You Do Matric Twice?

You can do Matric twice. However, this is only necessary if you failed more than three subjects. If you failed three or fewer subjects, you can register for a Matric Rewrite and only repeat the exams of the subjects you failed.

Can I Redo My Matric?

Yes, you can redo your Matric year up to five years after your Matric final exams. You can: 

 

  • Re-enrol for your Matric year up to five years after your Matric final exams if you failed more than three subjects 
  • Register for a Matric Rewrite up to five years after your Matric final exams if you failed fewer than three subjects
  • Register for a Matric Upgrade if you have been out of Matric for longer than five years

What Happens When You Repeat Matric?

If you repeat the school year, it works exactly the same way as the first time. You may just need to fill in a few extra forms, which your school will provide for you. 

 

You will attend classes throughout the year, and repeat projects, tests and assignments. You will retake the mid-year exams, the prelims/trial exams, and the final exams. 

How Much Does It Cost To Redo Matric?

If you repeat your Matric year, you will be paying school fees for the year again. If you do a Matric rewrite, it is free.

If you are repeating your Matric year, you can re-enrol at your school. If you are taking a Matric Rewrite or Matric Upgrade, you can study through distance learning. This means you can work while you study, and you can study from the safety and comfort of your own home.

Can I Rewrite Matric After 20 Years?

After 20 years, you cannot register for a Matric Rewrite, but you can register for a Matric Upgrade. When doing a Matric Upgrade, you can upgrade as many subjects as you like. You can also change any or all of your elective subjects if you prefer. 

How Many Times Can I Rewrite My Matric?

There is no limit to the number of times you can rewrite Matric as long as you are still under the age of 21. There is also no limit to the number of times you can upgrade your Matric. 

Can You Do Matric In 3 Months?

No, you cannot do Matric in three months. All Matric courses will take a minimum of 12 months to complete. 

Do You Get A Matric Certificate If You Failed?

Yes, you will still get a Matric Certificate if you failed. It will state your subject results, and that you have not passed Matric. 

Which Course I Can Do Without Matric?

There are many options available to you if you do not have your Matric. Your options include: 

 

  • Study accredited ICB courses
  • Study short courses

ICB Courses

ICB courses are accredited by ICB (the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers) and QCTO (the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations). This means that employers recognise these courses as formal qualifications. ICB qualifications are also internationally recognised. 

 

ICB courses you can study without Matric:

 

The ICB Business Management course requires you to have Grade 11 to apply. This course has three levels, and goes up to the Diploma level. 

 

The ICB Financial Accounting course requires you to have Grade 10 to apply. This course has four levels, and goes up to the Diploma level. 

 

There is also an ICB course in Office Administration. However, this course requires you to have Matric to be able to apply.

Four of these colleges also offer short courses that you can study without Matric. These courses are open access, which means you can apply if you are over the age of 16 and can understand, read and write in English. There are no other entry requirements.
