Adult Matric

Adult Matric is for people who are over the age of 21 and have left school. Study Matric Online and you will be able to further your studies where colleges/universities require Matric. Adult Matric is commonly referred to as Senior Certificate (Amended)

 

Who Qualifies For An Adult Matric?

  • You must be 21 or older, have a 
  • Grade 9 Certificate, or
  • Grade 9 Equivalent Certificate
    • This is also known as General Education and Training (GETC): ABET Level 4 
    • (Previously known as Standard 7)
  • An incomplete Matric Certificate 

What If I Am Only 19 years old?

You can apply for Adult Matric if you are 19 years old but you cannot write the exams. You have to be at least 21 years old to write the exams.

Yes, you can redo your Matric. Register at a new school if you are under the age of 21 years old.

How Can I Upgrade My Matric Score?

You can upgrade your Matric score in two ways:

 

  1. Supplementary exams
  2. Matric Upgrade

1. Supplementary Exams

The supplementary exam is now referred to as the second national exam. It is known as a Matric Rewrite or the “second chance” programme. 

 

It is an exam for people who want to upgrade the score of two subjects. Students under the age of 21 years old can apply. 

 

Apply at the end of January and write in May and June.

2. Matric Upgrade

Upgrade your Matric scores at Matric College and write the Adult Matric exams. 

 

At Matric College you must be 21 or older to apply. You can apply any time and register for the exam between November and the end of January every year. If you wrote your Matric in 2008 or after and you want to improve your results or take on new subjects, a Matric Upgrade gives you the chance to do so. You will receive a National Senior Certificate after completing this course. 

 

The exams will be written in May and June every year. 

 

Unlike a supplementary exam with a Matric Upgrade, you can write as many subjects as you want. You can also choose different subjects.

    1. Grade 10 in 2022 is still the same as Grade 10 in 2003. It is not a Matric certificate nor is Grade 10 equivalent to Matric.
