What Can I Study Without Matric?

There are many courses you can study without Matric. There are two different kinds of courses offered at these colleges that do not require Matric: 

  • ICB courses 
  • Short courses

ICB Courses 

There are two ICB courses you can choose to study without Matric:

  • Business Management
  • Financial Accounting

To study Business Management, you only need Grade 11 to be able to apply. To study Financial Accounting, you only need Grade 10 to be able to apply. 

There is also an ICB course in Office Administration, however, this course does require Matric to apply.

Where Can I Study ICB Courses?

There are many places you can study ICB courses. Some reputable distance learning colleges that offer these ICB courses are:

Can I Study NATED Courses Without Matric?

No, you can no longer study any NATED courses without Matric. In the past, only the Educare and Legal Secretary courses required Matric to apply. All other courses would accept a Matric Equivalent qualification. This is no longer the case. You must now have your Matric to apply to any NATED course.

Can I Apply At UNISA Without Matric?

No, you cannot apply to UNISA without a Matric Certificate. All universities require a Matric Certificate to apply. However, with an ICB qualification, you can apply for RPL (recognition of prior learning).

Can I Still Get My Matric?

Yes, there are many options available if you still want to get your Matric. These options are: 

 

  • Matric Rewrite
  • Matric Upgrade
  • Adult Matric

Matric Rewrite 

Matric Rewrite is an option available to those under the age of 21 who would like to improve their Matric results. You may rewrite a maximum of two subjects. These must be subjects you wrote for your Matric final exams, you cannot change subjects for the rewrite. 

 

Note that if you failed Matric, you will only be allowed to rewrite if improving the marks of two subjects will allow you to pass. If your overall results will still be failed after improving on two subjects, you will not be allowed to rewrite. 

 

To apply for a Matric Rewrite, you will need:

 

  • A copy of your Statement of Results
  • A certified copy of your ID

Matric Upgrade 

Matric Upgrade is an option available to those over the age of 21 who would like to improve their Matric results. You may upgrade as many subjects as you wish. You may also choose to change any or all of your elective subjects. 

 

You may apply for a Matric Upgrade as early as 19, but you must be over the age of 21 to write the exams because you will write the Adult Matric exams. There is no limit to the number of times you can upgrade your Matric. 

 

To apply for a Matric Upgrade, you will need: 

 

  • A copy of your Statement of Results
  • A certified copy of your ID

Adult Matric

Adult Matric is available for anyone who did not get to complete their high school education. Once you have successfully completed your Adult Matric, you will receive a Senior Certificate. This works exactly the same way as a National Senior Certificate/Matric Certificate. 

 

To apply for Adult Matric, you will need: 

 

  • A copy of your Grade 9 report or equivalent
  • A certified copy of your ID

There are many options available to study without Matric. You can study ICB courses without Matric. You can study short courses without Matric. You cannot study NATED courses without Matric. You cannot study at UNISA without Matric. There are options available if you would like to get your Matric.
