UNISA Short Courses 2020

UNISA offers a variety of short courses through each of its colleges. Short courses can change from year to year, so it is important to know what short courses are available.

When Can I Apply To UNISA For 2023?

UNISA has not yet opened applications for the 2023 academic year. Application dates are as follows: 

  • Undergraduate qualifications (Higher Certificates, Advanced Certificates, Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas, PGCEs, B.Tech, and Degrees): 01 September – 14 October 2022
  • Honour’s Degrees and Postgraduate Diplomas: 01 September – 14 October 2022 
  • Master’s Degrees and Doctoral Degrees: 11 September – 14 November 2022

How Much Does A Short Course Cost At UNISA?

This depends on which Short Learning Programme (SLP) you choose to study, and how long the course is. Prices generally range between R1 860.00 and R4 500.00 for the full course. Check the UNISA website for the price of the course you want to study before applying. 

Does NSFAS Pay For Short Courses?

No, NSFAS does not pay for any short courses. NSFAS does not pay for any postgraduate studies, or studies done at private institutions, either. NSFAS will only pay for the following courses, and only for South African citizens: 

  • Undergraduate courses studied at a public South African university 
  • National Certificate (Vocational) levels studied at public South African TVET colleges

What Documents Do I Need To Apply For A UNISA Short Course?

To apply for one of UNISA’s SLPs, students will have to submit the following documents:

  • A copy of your school qualification(s)
  • A copy of your tertiary academic record (if applicable)
  • A copy of your ID or passport (if an international student)
  • A copy of your marriage certificate or divorce decree (if applicable)

If the above necessary documentation is not available in English or Afrikaans, applicants will have to submit a sworn translation of each document.

UNISA also reserves the right to request a student’s original documents for verification purposes. Submitting false documentation will result in a rejected application, in terms of the Student Disciplinary Code (SDC).
