Registering to Study at Unisa in 2022

Unisa Registration 2022: All You Need To Know

The Unisa registration window for the 2022 academic year is now open. What’s even greater news is that semesters at Unisa are back! That’s right – now students keen to study at Unisa in 2022 will have multiple opportunities to register at the university rather than only having one opportunity in the year.

Unisa Registration Dates for 2022

To avoid any confusion over who exactly can register at Unisa for 2022, only the following students can register for their chosen qualification at the university:

  • New applicants and current Unisa students who applied for admission to a new qualification); and
  • Current Unisa students who are re-registering their qualification for 2022

With the semester format back in action at Unisa, prospective students can look forward to two registration periods throughout the year, one during the month of January and the other during the months of June and July.

Registration dates for the first semester of 2022 at Unisa for under-/postgraduate qualifications and honours degrees are as follows:

  • Undergraduate and Postgraduate Semester 1 modules: 4 January 2022 to 04 February 2022
  • Undergraduate and Postgraduate Semester 2 modules registered in Semester 1: 4 January 2022 to 04 February 2022
  • Undergraduate year modules: 4 January 2022 to 7 March 2022
  • Postgraduate and Honours year modules: 4 January 2022 to 31 March 2022

Current and prospective students who fail to register within the allotted registration time will have their application deemed null and void. Students would then have to either re-register during the next registration period or (for new students) reapply to study at the university.

Registering for your UNISA Qualification in 2022

While there are multiple methods of registration at the university, the online method remains the most popular (and safest) form of registration. Students can also register for their qualification via:

The online method can be considered the easiest method of registration to many, especially for students living in areas that are far from the closest Unisa campus to their location. Other factors that put the online method over all other registration methods include the relative ease and speed of the registration process, with registration taking as quick as 15 minutes.

Granted, the other form of Unisa registration have their own advantages and disadvantages (but who still uses fax machines in 2022?), but where’s the fun in waiting weeks to be registered when you can get registered in 15 minutes?

With the registration windows reverting back to pre-Covid times, this will come as great news to those who were frustrated that there was only one registration window for the entire year. With the extra registration window in mid-2022, this gives those who had their registrations rejected or just failed to register in time another chance.

How to Pay Your Registration Fees at Unisa

As many would know, there are two sections to the registration process at Unisa. First would be the submission of registration papers and to complete, making the initial registration payment in order for registration to be finalized.

Students unable to fulfill their payment obligations and miss the deadline would forfeit their registration, reapply during the next period and study during Semester 2. For more information on the different payment methods and how you can pay for your Unisa studies, you can find more online here.

The final dates for the initial payment that has to be made in order for registration to be confirmed and finalized in the first semester are:

  • 04 February 2022 for semester modules on undergraduate, postgraduate, and honours studies;
  • 7 March 2022 for undergraduate year modules; and
  • 31 March 2022 for postgraduate/honours year modules.

Why Should I Register to Study at UNISA?

Distance learning has become a more common form of study in this day and age, despite many educational institutions reverting back to face-to-face teaching. However, as Unisa is an open distance e-learning institution, it does not have that benefit compared to other universities (if you don’t count the tutorial classes).

Studying at Unisa does have its benefits, main one being able to study at your own pace from home (other than meeting your assignment due dates). Students can connect to the university through the myUnisa platform, where they are able to access study materials and gain assistance from designated tutors.

With so many responsibilities, not everyone will be able to attend classes each day. That’s why with distance learning, it favors those who either value their freedom or have other responsibilities such as work. ODeL would therefore be the ideal study system for many.

And if you are unsure of studying through Unisa, you can always make use of Unisa’s Readiness tool here, which can help students decide on whether Unisa (and distance learning in general) is the right institution and study method for you!

Potential UNISA students can also take the First-Year Experience Massive Open Online Course (FYE MOOC: 101). The course can help determine student’s readiness to study at the university. Students can use and access the course here.

Lastly, if you are planning to study at Unisa in 2022, then register as soon as possible otherwise why apply? Sometimes things can be out of your control (especially when it comes to finances) but keep in mind that there are plenty of students who qualified to study at UNISA yet did not receive a space to study.

With distance learning comes challenges, but there are plenty of services out there which caters to the needs of UNISA students. Together We Pass is one such institution. Since 2008, we’ve helped and assisted 1000s of students with their BCom and LLB UNISA modules via our online study groups and study resources (study notes and exam packs).

In our study groups, students will have access to a vast number of resources as well as access to our cheat-free assignment comparison tool. Additionally, students will have the chance to engage with each other to discuss their module’s work.

Our study notes and exam packs provide you with the perfect tool to use alongside your textbook as well as to prepare yourself for your UNISA module. Combining it all together will give you a greater chance of passing your UNISA module.
