What Is A NATED Course?

NATED courses are National Accredited Technical Education Diploma courses. They have been designed by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), and accredited by QCTO (the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations) and SAQA (the South African Qualifications Authority).

About Each NATED Course

NATED courses have three years of theory studies followed by 18 months of practical studies in the form of work experience. You will be placed at a job relevant to your course using iWIL, a free placement service that works in partnership with DHET.

Can I Study For A NATED Diploma Without Matric?

No, you cannot study any NATED course without Matric. In the past, you could apply to some NATED courses with a Matric Equivalent qualification. This is no longer the case. To apply to study any NATED course, you must have your Matric.

There are other options for continuing your studies at Matric College without Matric. You can study:

ICB courses
Short courses

ICB Courses At Matric College

ICB courses are also accredited by QCTO, meaning they are recognised by employers as formal qualifications. ICB courses are also internationally recognised. ICB courses available at Matric College are:

ICB Business Management courses begin at NQF level 4, which is a Matric equivalent level. This means you only need to have completed Grade 11 to apply. Business Management has three course levels which go up to the Diploma level.

ICB Financial Accounting courses begin at NQF level 3, which is equivalent to Grade 11. This means you only need to have completed Grade 10 to be able to study this course. These courses have four levels which go up to the Diploma level.

Matric College also offers the ICB courses in Office Administration. However, this course requires Matric to be able to apply.

Matric College also offers a range of short courses that do not require Matric to apply. These courses are:

Can I Get My Matric To Study A NATED Course?

Yes, if you do not have your Matric and would like to get it, there are options available. These options are:

Matric Rewrite

Matric Rewrite is an option for anyone under the age of 21 who would like to improve their Matric marks. When doing a Matric Rewrite, you may rewrite a maximum of two subjects. These must be subjects you wrote for your Matric final exams, you cannot change subjects.

Note that if you failed Matric, you will only be allowed to do a Matric Rewrite if improving the marks of two subjects will allow you to pass Matric. If your overall results will still be a fail after improving the marks in two subjects, you will not be allowed to rewrite.

To apply for a Matric Rewrite, you will need:

A copy of your Statement of Results
A certified copy of your ID

Matric Upgrade

This option is available to anyone over the age of 21 who would like to improve their Matric results. When doing a Matric Upgrade, you may upgrade as many subjects as you like. You may also choose to change any or all of your elective subjects.

You can apply for a Matric Upgrade as early as 19. However, you must be over the age of 21 to write the exams because you will write the Adult Matric exams.

To apply for a Matric Upgrade, you will need:

A copy of your Statement of Results
A certified copy of your ID

Adult Matric

Adult Matric is available to anyone over the age of 21 who did not get to complete their high school education. Once you have successfully completed your Adult Matric, you will receive your Senior Certificate. This works exactly the same way as a National Senior Certificate/Matric Certificate.

To apply for Adult Matric, you will need:

A copy of your Grade 9 report or equivalent
A certified copy of your ID

Matric College offers a wide range of NATED courses. There are many career options with every level of each study stream. NATED courses require Matric to apply. There are other study options if you do not have Matric. You can get your Matric if you want to study a NATED course.
