Where Do You Get Your Matric Certificate?
You can get your Matric Certificate from the office at your school. Once your results have been released and your certificate has been issued, you can fetch it from your school. If you have not collected your Matric Certificate in time, you can get it from:
- The Department of Basic Education
- The Department of Provincial Education
Can I Get My Matric Certificate Immediately?
No, you cannot receive your Matric Certificate immediately. Between the time your results are released or your application for a re-issue is approved, there will be a four- to six-week wait until your certificate is issued, and you can fetch it.
You can only get your Matric Statement of Results immediately from the Department of Basic Education (DBE)
Can I Buy An Original Matric Certificate?
No, you cannot buy your Matric Certificate. Umalusi has stated that participating in the buying and selling of Matric Certificates is a criminal offence.
You can apply for a re-issue of your certificate if it has been lost or damaged. There will be a fee for this. However, an original certificate cannot be bought.
Get your Matric Certificate the best way, which is through hard work and dedication. This way you will feel like you have achieved your Matric Certificate the honest way.

Do You Get Matric Certificate If You Failed?
Yes, you will still be given a Matric Certificate even if you failed Matric. Your certificate will have your subject information, and it will state that you have not passed Matric.
How Do I Know If My Matric Certificate Is Registered?
You can check whether your certificate is registered and valid on the National Learners’ Records Database (NLRD) through SAQA VeriSearch.
To check all qualifications registered under your name:
- Click on the “Extract from the NLRD” button
- Download the consent form and fill it in
- Scan a certified copy of your ID book/card or your passport. The certification must not be older than three months
- Email the certified copy of your identification and consent form and send them to [email protected] with the subject “Extract from the NLRD”
- Your information will be emailed to you within 20 days
To check for verification of a qualification:
- Click on the “Individual Verification Letters” button
- Download the consent form and fill it in
- Scan a certified copy of your ID book/card or your passport. The certification must not be older than three months
- Email the certified copy of your identification and consent form and send them to [email protected] with the subject “Verification Letter – Quotation”
- Your information will be emailed to you within 20 days
What Level NQF Is Matric?
Matric is NQF level 4. NQF stands for National Qualifications Framework. This is a system designed by SAQA (the South African Qualifications Authority) to determine the educational level of a qualification. There are 10 NQF levels:

What Is Amended Matric?
Amended Matric is the common name for the certificate awarded to those who have done a Matric Upgrade. This is the Senior Certificate (Amended) and works exactly the same way as a National Senior Certificate/Matric Certificate.
An “amended Matric” refers to the amendments that have been made to the curriculum, and not the certificate or marks that were allocated. For example, if you previously had Woodwork as a subject, you will have to do the amended version which is Technology.
